The Process
Home Grown
Our farm is 10 acres of mostly woods and hillsides. We grow our flowers and shrubs on less than an acre, all of our cut flowers from seed starting in early February. So far we have over 35 species of flowers and shrubs, growing each day.
Harvested
We harvest throughout the growing season as the flowers mature and are at their prime for drying. This encourages more blooms for the entire growing season which lasts from early June
to the end of October when we usually get our first hard freeze.
Preparation
Once the blooms are cut they are then dried, pressed in books, using silica or simply hanging upside down in a dark room or closet.
The resin process takes a minimum of 2 days, with a 24 hour drying time between each pour for the resin to dry, the flowers are layered between each pour for a suspended look.
What You See
The most difficult pieces are the earrings and necklaces, these are very tedious to make, taking about 2 days in order to let resin dry between pours.
Our shadow boxes and vintage windows (repurposed old windows) take 4-6 hours to prep which sometimes includes reglazing along with building the frame and backboard.
